M.I.A’s shocking video of “Born Free”

Posted in Cut The Noize on April 27th, 2010 by alt

The British Electro-/HipHop-Act M.I.A released a video of her new single “Born Free”. The French director Romain Gavras, who was also responsible for videos like Justice’s “Stress” or Simian Mobile Disco’s “I Believe” made a nine minute long clip in which a race against red-haired people takes place.

A special forces unit is fighting through dwellings, arresting red-haired children and young guys and shoot them or let them run over mine fields. M.I.A shows a dramatic and shocking picture of her political statement against racism.

Here is the clip (uncensored):

The releasedate for her still untitled new album ist announced for june 28th.
Producer Diplo promised a few musical surprises – it should go into an entirely new direction . The fact that M.I.A is not afraid to clarify political statements, she already proved with her song “Paper Planes” for the movie “Slumdog Millionaire”, addressed to the poverty in the Third World.

Sono – What You Do

Posted in Cut The Noize, Kontor on April 27th, 2010 by alt

It is a while, almost 10 years, an earthquake named „Keep Control“ shooked the clubs on this earth and raised the Hamburg based trio „Sono“ into music heaven.

Since then they played on many stages, clubs and festivals, always proved that one of its greatest talents, beyond producing first class tracks, is their diversity.

It is probably fair to say that there is no second act in the electronic field, which plays on the Loveparade at one side and on Gothicfestivals on the other, an act which strips down the clubs but creates a real concert atmosphere on the big stages.

These three guys fom Sono are thoroughbred musicians you can hear on their productions and for sure on stage.

PLUS“ is the  newest and fourth album from Martin, Lennart and Florian and the positive attitude runs like a thread through their work. And once again they demonstrate an album full of freshness and positive energy which will definately catch you up.

So to their next single „What You Do“, giving us a piece of their work full of enthusiasm and their understanding of electronic music, providing even more sensitivity.
„What You Do“ is energized by a remix from DIRTY DISCO YOUTH, one of this year’s upcoming artists who gained big respect with his latest release on DIM MAK records in the last weeks. This guy behind „Chicks On Speed’s“ forthcoming album comes up with an explosive and fresh clubsmasher keeping the soul of the original by any time. Be sure not to miss his next remixes for Alex Gopher and Sharam Jey.

More energy comes from Hamburg legends SAINT PAULI who produced a phosphorescent remix from the deep of their heart and bringing us an high quality electronic disco tune.

Benny Benassi – Satisfaction (Afrojack Remix)

Posted in Cut The Noize on April 21st, 2010 by alt

I don’t want to say at this moment, that Afrojack’s remix of  “Satifaction” will be this year’s biggest tune?! Otherwise, why not? I hear this track in such a lot dj sets and in the clubs it is a guarantee for a full floor. And not only in the clubs…
On the festivals also, which this video from the Ultra Music Festival at the WMC 2010 proves.

We Have Band – Divisive Remixes (Naïve)

Posted in Naïve on April 6th, 2010 by alt

2010 has all the makings of a year to remember for We Have Band. Having recently signed their album to Naïve, France’s biggest independent record label, the London-based three-piece are now getting set for a full European live tour incl. some dates Germany, a summer of festivals and the release of their debut album ‘WHB’ this April.

It may actually surprise you that they’ve still only released three official singles to date; such has been their impact since bursting onto the live scene in 2008. Praised by both fans and critics alike, Thomas, Dede and Darren have done most of their work on the road, wowing crowds and forcing people to dance across Europe, Russia and North America (and all without a label!).

Having started last year with a fantastic first experience of SXSW, the band went on to release their second single ‘You Came Out’ through Kill Em All, remix the likes of Bloc Party, Micachu and Peter Bjorn and John, and head to their first ever Glastonbury Festival as winners of the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Contest. The band followed that by performing notable high turnout sets at Latitude, Great Escape and Secret Garden and recently completed the recording of their debut 12-track LP with the help of producer Gareth Jones (Grizzly Bear, Interpol, Depeche Mode, These New Puritans).

‘Divisive’, taken from the album encapsulates everything that people have come to love from WHB, combining multi-layered percussion with high rising synths, punk-funk bass and entwined vocals. One of the charms that We Have Band possess is their ability to share the limelight, each using their talents to get the maximum out of every song they perform. ‘Divisive’ is no different, acting as the perfect taster for what’s to come in April with their debut LP. Backed up with an amazing remix package including Carl Craig, Mr Township Funk DJ Mujava, Gomma artist Golden Bug and more, it’s safe to say this is coming soon to dancefloor near you.

Kavinsky – Nighcall / Pacific Coast (Records Makers)

Posted in Cut The Noize, Record Makers on April 1st, 2010 by alt

Kavinsky - Nightcall / Pacific Coast

There have been much rumors about a new release from French artist Kavinsky since weeks.

Finally the wait is over as we bring you now the new single ‘Nightcall’ from Kavinsky that represents the sensual, epic and romantic French sound like never before.

The song was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and mixed by SebastiAN and finds the spooky, distorted, zombie vocals of Kavinsky perfectly counterbalanced by the sultry purr of CSS’ front kitten Lovefoxxx.

On the other side, Kavinsky has produced the fantastic ‘Pacific Coast Highway’.  This track really taps into the Kavinsky story as a voiceover narrates a high-speed ghost-car chase on the freeway. Kavinsky’s trademark arpeggiated 80’s sound forms the stylish backdrop to a thrilling pursuit the cops haven’t a chance in hell of winning.

The remix package for this release comes courtesy of secretive and emblematic figures. Nightcall gets a rework by the mysterious Dustin Nguyen. The sensuous vibe of the original gets sped-up for dancefloors around the world by one of the finest French talents to emerge in recent years.

Our package includes a very special rework by Breakbot who delivered one of the finest pieces of disco charged music with ´Baby I´m Yours´.

‘Pacific Coast Highway’ gets a treatment by the enigmatic Jackson, the true hero of the French electro sound of the last decade. The avante-garde producer, signed to Warp, transforms the original chase into a sprawling, drawn-out nine-minute epic that is pure high-octane.

Kavinsky died in a car crash in 1986, whilst driving his beloved Testarossa. He re-appeared as a zombie in 2005, with his 12-inch, Teddy Boy. Since then, he has shown up all around the globe, playing his music to fellow humans. Crowds gathered to witness the miracle: despite being dead, Kavinsky was still alive. In 2007, he released his second 12-inch, ‘1986’. This is when his French robot mates in Daft Punk invited him to join their Alive’ Tour, and A-Trak put together an American Tour in his now repaired Testarossa. After discovering the world with his red eyes, Kavinsky retreated to his base camp to work on his debut album.

Now, the zombie is striking back. After months of studio work on his forthcoming album, he & Paris´ finest Record Makers have decided to release ‘Nightcall’ as an apéritif.  Sit back, enjoy and get ready for the main course…

The single will be launched at a very special party hosted by ‘Together’ on 23rd April at the Coronet in London with some more of France’s finest on show: Uffie and Cassius
