Cocolores – Heart Quest

Posted in Cut The Noize on August 30th, 2011 by alt

If you aren’t aware of COCOLORES - they are an exciting newcomer duo hailing from Munich who just signed to Exploited.
Jason Heath (his mother sung in 70′s Disco Act “Silver Convention” – remember “Fly, Robin,Fly”?) and Manuel Garay – the names behind Cocolores (aged only 20 and 21) – release their debut EP on the label in late August.
Their first EP is a blend of 90′s house, with a delectable tinge of urban funkiness. Trust us. This mix will be definitely the top choice for your next house party. Mystical, light&soulful. Turn off the dark!

Floria Rey – Moonlight Sonata

Posted in Cut The Noize on August 29th, 2011 by alt

Please welcome this exciting new classic meets electronica project which has begun in the summer of 2010.
Floria Rey
meets Frankie Flowerz and almost instantly musical interests melt together, blending into a sound that is authentic, warm and captivating.
Having performed all over Europe with her skillful and magical prowess of the violin, Floria Rey is no newcomer, she has been fiddling professionally for 35 years on the violin, and also successfully runs her own music school. After completing her classical education, she became the first Violinist in the Symphony Orchestra for over 15 years. Floria herself is a genre-crosser who draws no distinction between classical music and pop or electronica.Upon hearing the results from the spontaneous recording sessions in his studio, Frankie decided to work with Floria ,turning her wonderfully seamless violin performances into captured moments on the harddrive; combining electronics with cheeky bits. After almost 6 months of recording , this is the outcome and more is to come. Berlin based Funkhausmusic presents the first batch of recordings from this wonderful piece of art.
This is “Moonlight Sonata”,( originally composed by Beethoven) improvised and revisited by Floria Rey ; produced and arranged by Frankie Flowerz complete with remixes from Get Physical’s Siopis, B-Pitch’s “Mr Statik”, UK ‘s head honcho from Electric Sheep Lee Waxman and finally, newcomer from Berlin, DJ Oorange.

Lack Of Afro – A Time For…

Posted in Cut The Noize on August 23rd, 2011 by alt

Lack of Afro - Adam Gibbons

As a multi instrumentalist, artist, producer, DJ and in demand remixer, Lack Of Afro (Adam Gibbons) has achieved a startling amount in the few years since his first Freestyle releases. Playing live and DJ-ing across the world, producing and remixing everyone from Tom Jones, The Pharcyde, The New Mastersounds through to Kraak & Smaak.

In 2011, as well as collaborating on an album project with Eddie Roberts of The New Mastersounds, and having also produced and played on the Jazz FM ‘Album of The Week’ ‘Colours’, by Freestyle label mate ‘Frootful’ Adam somehow found time to create what is, without doubt his strongest album yet ‘This Time’.

As an introduction to this eclectic and progressive collection, Freestyle Records is presenting the simply stunning single ‘A Time For’ which features Wayne Giddens’ smoky vocals on this mellow, sublime soulful outing. An accomplished songwriter , Waynes’ own previous singles,‘Whatever I Choose I Lose’‘I’ve Changed My Ways’ have both enjoyed heavy rotation on BBC Radio 2.

This collaboration between these 2 multi talented musicians has resulted in this memorable and touching composition, and to contrast that – the B side ‘Numero Seenko’ is a club friendly, hard hitting funk tinged number that is totally exclusive to this single!

Twin Turbo: TIGA talks about new label

Posted in Cut The Noize on August 22nd, 2011 by alt

Tiga

Twin Turbo is Tiga‘s new label, an ‘all-digital, all-banger venture’, the idea being that the time from a tune’s conception to hitting the dancefloor is as short and effective as possible. The first release comes fron The Dove (Tiga and Jesper Dahlback) and as you can hear above, it’s a proper slice of electro excellence. The track is called ‘Girl at a Party with Siren‘ and if this is anything to go by, the label’s releases are going to be a must for any self-respecting DJ.

What’s more, for a limited time (until September 12th), 100% of the proceeds will go to East African Famine relief. The Canadian government will match every dollar donated, so it’s a perfect time to show your support for the plight of Africa by pledging love for one of Canada’s premier techno labels. Tiga spoke exclusively to Mixmag about it:

Why the new label?
So we can release more music, and also release some realy moronic club-banger style tracks without fear of contaminating the rest of our catalog. Also, realizing that not ALL music is created equal, and not ALL music needs to be pressed on vinyl. While we are perfectly comfortable with “eclecticism”, we realize that some categorization will help the music reach the right people.

Which artists are doing it for you at the moment.
The Dove (which might be me), Clouds (whose release is one of my favorite records), Zoo Brazil (with a Noob remix), Bordello & Gingi (witness the rise of the Turbo next generation, and also with a sick Kink remix) and Donovans. All certified party monsters.

Proceeds are going to Charity, I take it the cause means a lot to you…
Proceeds on the first wave of subscriptions until mid-sept are going to charity, and those contributions will be doubled by me personally. We had an extremely successful campaign raising funds for Tsunami relief last march, and it seemed to work very well as a way to raise money. I think people are on the edge about paying for music, its almost like they want a reason to pay, and that was my solution, a solution that actually helps all parties concerned. The East African relief in particular is something that I care about. It is self-explanatory.

Any other cool stuff happening in your life at the moment?
Better question: any other cool stuff NOT happening in your life? There are very few cool things not happening in my life… it’s overflowing with cool. Our long awaited (myself and Zombie Nation) ZZT album is completed and coming out in November, my touring is in full swing, label on fire, I start my regular BBC6 show in October, and start work on my next album in September. To list more would be like showing off.

Mayer Hawthorne - A Long Time

“How about some free music today? We don’t do many remixes, but here’s one we but together for our buddy Mayer Hawthorne who will be opening for us on our upcoming Night Falls Tour. Get your tickets now! Enjoy. bit.ly/r52l4G

Whether it’s Kanye West’s “Good Fridays” or dinner on taco tuesdays, devoting an awesome thing to a day each week has become an American tradition. Mayer Hawthorne joins the trend with his new “Mayer Mondays” series in anticipation of his sophomore album, and here’s a selection that features Chromeo getting all ’80s on the track “A Long Time.” This is carefree night music with crisp, galloping disco bass, faux strings and synth hits with just the right about of cheese. How Do You Do comes October 11 via Universal.

The Rapture – ‘How Deep Is Your Love?’

Posted in Cut The Noize on August 18th, 2011 by alt

The Rapture - How Deep Is Your Love

Five years have passed since The Rapture released their last album, but the wait was worth it: The trio from New York is back with an impressive album from disco, pop and wave.

The release of the new album (early September) “In The Grace Of Your Love” marks the beginning of a new chapter in the band’s history and a welcome return to DFA Records, whose founder, James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy her debut album “Echoes,” produced.

House of Jealous Lovers” was their first international hit, which appeared on DFA and still manage to be a milestone in the indie-dance / dance-punk scene is traded and may have founded a whole movement.
Together with the French producer Philippe Zdar (Phoenix, Beastie Boys, Chromeo), the band worked out an album that documented clearly how the long time has been since the last album as the most productive and most important of her career.

The seemingly casual party atmosphere of days gone by obscuring the fact that tension built up within the band and eventually left the band bassist Matt Safer.  But they have managed to create space for the creative and personal space and present themselves now as a mature band that has found himself.

Already with the first lines of the single “How Deep Is Your Love?“, One of Luke’s voice is carried along in a wave of lyrical optimism.

“How Deep Is Your Love?” is not only an outstanding triumph of the band, but a courageous and euphoric song that was written with heart and soul and unambiguously makes clear that The Rapture are back, to new heights like never before before.

Homework, Doctor Dru & Adana Twins

Posted in Cut The Noize on August 16th, 2011 by alt

Shir Khan & Exploited dip their toes into the world of disco edits with the launch of new label Black Jukebox which sees contributions from label regulars Homework as well as introducing the Hamburg axis Doctor Dru & Adana Twins into the fold. It’s the latter that open proceedings with the two A Side bumps, proffering a nicely balanced tweak of Mtume’s “Juicy” which retains enough soul from the original whilst presenting it in a nicely recut fashion reminiscent of the great Tiger & Woods. Alongside it “Supreme” dips into housier territory with the primitive scratching and rising piano lines giving proceedings an 80s sensation soaked with twilight niceties. On the flip Homework do the near impossible, transforming Lenny Kravitz at his most indulgent into a glistening disco house number whilst “Love Ray” is perhaps the most straight up excursion into main room filtered disco house territory.
