Their first EP “She Loves You” was a mix of sharply floor focused tech-house, deep house and disco blends. Having reached No. 4 in the German Club Charts and liked by key-players such as Tensnake, Julio Bashmore, Eats Everything, A-Trak, Matthew Dear and Tim Sweeney – we had to make a quick follow-up.

After releasing with Sonar Kollektiv and Defected, Michael Beim AKA Skwerl became a Gigolo in 2009 and now releases his third 12” for us, the You Need to Dance EP, with some of his most inventive work to date.

The A-side is an exclusive extended 12” version of “You Need to Dance” – also serving as a teaser for our upcoming thirteenth label compilation – which is constructed around the a cappella from “By the Way You Dance” by Salsoul Records artist Bunny Siegler. Other than the vocals, though, there’s little connection to the Philly sound of the 1979 original; instead, Skwerl provides an ultra-modern polished house groove with an almost sinister quality, contrasting with, yet perfectly complementing, the soulful lyrical delivery.

On the B-side, treated with a playful Skwerl instrumental, again showing his ability to pull from a variety of sound sources and mix them into a cohesive bouquet: at first, it’s a simple combination of piano, strings and mild-mannered percussion, but soon a piercing synth starts perforating the surface, allowing the wild jacking rhythms to storm the scene with an old-school acid line to compete for attention. But despite the mish-mash of organic and synthetic sounds, “Pollyanna” remains a unified piece, with nods toward the past of dance music history while sounding undoubtedly contemporary.

Tyson is back with a full-on disco power ballad and his electrifying vocals feature rolling over a sinister and menacing beat for his latest track ‘After You’re Gone’. Bodi Bill had an thrilling and intense year. Playing shows in all different kinds of venues, from basement clubs to Festivals such as “Rock am Ring”, from DIY-Blogs to MTV UK without any break. Now, it starts allover again. Therefore, they rewarded themselves with a small and at the same time big chunc of music. In advance of the weeks to come, in advance of a new tour to start very soon. The KDMS is a underground – supergroup. England’s No.1 Indie – Disco Diva Kathy Diamond (Permanent Vacation, Eskimo, Moodmusic) and Maximilian Skiba from London’s REKIDS label (solo album coming up soon) teamed up to do a real band.

The result are some very crisp, catchy but raw house tunes with a great pop appeal. Kathy’s unique voice that combines soul-funk background with a very own timbre meets Max’s way of contemporary electronic production.
He does it like Prince: Playing all the guitars, drums, bass and keyboards himself. And then reworking it on the computer.

Here is their third single on Gomma. Check the amazing Morgan Geist Remix (..and see them live perfoming with a real 5 person power band. And expect an nice album early 2012.)

Due to the recent debate on misogyny in dance music, Tech experimental outfit Renaissance Man have been discussing changing their name to Renaissance Person.

Ville Haimala from Renaissance Man said in a recent interview: “We are in the process of changing our name to Renaissance Person, which is not to say polymathic tendencies would be a capacity exclusive to homo sapiens.”

Turbo label owner Tiga agreed: “Your name is shockingly arrogant, not to mention borderline sexist.”

Are they being serious? Or are they trying to draw some attention to their recent album release ‘Renaissance Man – The Renaissance ManProject‘?

Virtual 3d sets of blocks and morphing geometries representing glitches, harmonic and rhythmic structure of the music spread themselves through the streets and the buildings until they take over the entire cityscape.
The film has been realized with an experimental, “faked” stop motion technique derived from standard footage elaboration, using multiple paces in order to maintain the synchronization with the soundtrack.

Rainer Trueby’s brand new 3rd solo single! After releasing his smashing solo debut on Compost Black Label (Livin In The Music / Es Lo Que Pasa / Hirtenruf) and doing “Schoko Bolla”, an all-night jam session (and an amazing free download and gift for all fans out there) he is back again teaming up with Danilo Plessow (Motor City Drum Ensemble). Funny, both Motor City Drum Ensemble and Rainer Trueby (as Trueby Trio – together with Roland Appel and Christian Prommer) have compiled a DJ Kicks.

With its perfectly chosen post garage appeal „Jeck“sets you in the mood for doing nearly everything and honours the slower, more subtly grooves in a very significant way. Reminds a bit to the early Nineties Nu-Groove Sound from NYC. Especially when the bombastic kick combines with the more jazzy, laid back keys. And when you realize that Trueby speaks (and sings) all of his vocals himself, you know that there’s the whole package! The record contains a further track “Welcome To Our World”, which is as moody as hell! Sit back and relax! Last but not least the 12inch includes a kick-ass Marcus Worgull’s remix.

French artist Koyote returns to Mixpack with a handpicked selection of remixes of ‘Midsummer Tales’, the EP he dropped earlier this year. With Altered Natives, Ceephax Acid Crew and Marble Players (aka Surkin, Bobmo and Para One) all lending their dancefloor touch, alongside a VIP from Koyote himself, there a re-shifting for house and bass DJs alike.
