Watch out and have a listen. Westbam, host of legendary and world biggest indoor-event Mayday, you name it, is back. And we are very proud to introduce you to his upcoming album “Götterstrasse” (engl.: Gods Road) with the first single “You Need The Drugs Feat. Richard Butler”. The whole album, coming out on April 29th, is another milestone in his unique DJ career, with Westbam celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2013.
And the list of features is as impressive as the variety of genres, from which they come. Brit-pop meets punk meets dark wave meets hip-hop: Iggy Pop, Bernard Sumner (New Order), Brian Molko (Placebo), Africa Baby Bam (Jungle Brothers), Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Inga Humpe, to name a few.
Already the first single, with a fantastic interpretation of mau5trap artist Moguai, shows that Westbam, as an artist, reached a whole new level in his “great tribute to the night and the night life”. So far for him, “electronic music was just sex and power” – but in his thirtieth year as a dj and producer, this is not enough anymore. “The night and the night life is more complex, it is of great emotions, great and small dramas, emotional highlights of falling in love, of passion, but also of terrible crash, loneliness and despair.” Exactly this large spectrum of emotions comes to expression in “You Need The Drugs”. Westbam presents itself as a sensitive storyteller.
In thirty years, there was no interview, in which he was wasn’t asked about drugs. Reason enough, to thematize “drugs” in his first single of his new album “Götterstrasse”.
The voice of the heart-rending hymn by Richard Butler, the lead singer of New Wave band “The Psychedelic Furs“ and the message is clear: “Drugs nerve! Drugs destroy relationships! Drugs are always counterproductive!”
