Booka Shade Ft. Fritz Kalkbrenner – Crossing Borders

2013 was a phenomenal year for Booka Shade, having returned with their fifth artist album ‘EVE‘ and toured the world with their incredible live shows. Stand out gigs from 2013 included their live set at London’s Oval Space and their live performance at the 20th Anniversary of BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix at The Warehouse Project.

‘Crossing Borders’ was co-written with fellow Berliner and vocalist Fritz Kalkbrenner, most notably for his vocals on ‘Sky & Sand’ with his brother, Paul. Booka Shade first met Fritz when he asked them to remix one of his songs, “as we´re fans of his voice, we thought it would be a great idea if he would sing a vocal for one of our demos for the new album. He came to our studio with the lyrics of ´Crossing Borders´ and within 1 hour, the song was recorded.”

‘Crossing Borders’ provoked a huge reaction with the fans and has resulted in artists lining up to make their mark on the track. In the coming months you can expect to hear remixes from the likes of Kolombo, Chopstick & Johnjon, Mathias Kaden, Pleasurekraft, Chi Thanh as well as Booka Shade themselves. Featuring Andy Cato from Groove Armada on the trombone, ‘Crossing Borders’ is enriched with acoustic and chilling electronic tones and demonstrates the trials and tribulations of the every day struggle “we’ve got to go on, even if we stray, crossing borders to another side”. Let’s celebrate the Booka Sound!

90SECHZIG90 – CHANGES EP (EXPOSURE)

90sechzig90 - Changes EP

Good things take time, and the time the young up and comers from Hamburg 90sechzig90 have taken to go back to their roots and publish this brand new banger EP “Changes” on Exposure Music was most definitely worth it. After debuting on Exposure Music with the label’s first ever release “Europa EP” (supported by names like Claude VonStroke, Mr. Statik, Amine Edge, Oliver Schories, Treasure Fingers, Etienne de Crécy and more) almost exactly a year ago, both 90sechzig90 and Exposure Music made their ways through the music industry on parallel courses, only to find themselves rejoining again now for this new release.

With a smashing new EP featuring an exclusive remix by label mate BENSEN and two further incredible tracks, 90sechzig90 is sure to take off even higher than they already have this past year. The EP shows off the process of time following the first release and how Exposure Music and 90sechzig90 have transformed in this past year.

“Changes” depicts the back and forths that inspired the duo. A driving bassline serves as a great underline to the switching of deep melodic inserts and high pitched sirens. The extreme ups und downs really get your blood flowing and put you in the perfect place to look forward to what is coming next on this great EP!

“Not Good For You” starts off with a mysterious and haunting build up, leading up to the point when the chilling deep vocals begin. Fast paced percussions get you right into a dancing and grooving mood and won’t leave anyone not nodding their heads to the beat. The message may be ” too much of it, is not good for you baby”, but don’t worry, you won’t ever get enough of this track!

With its spooky cineastic Rhodisch intro the BENSEN Remix leaves one curious of what’s next. While thinking of somewhat moody or deep shit, a whisteling builds up and a dark voice announces the snappy strong kick and bassline, that will push you through this piece of groovy driving work and leaves you with the message: to much of it.. is not good for you, baby.

BOOKA SHADE – LOVE INC (REMIXES FROM BUTCH, HOT SINCE 82, EMPEROR MACHINE)

Booka Shade - Love Inc

If Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier chamber go into the studio to work on new material for their long-term project Booka Shade, the result is basically so undergroundig and promising at the same time. Numbers like “Mandarine Girl” and “Body Language” have demonstrated this impressively in the past.

A balancing act, just a few electronic music producers can manage for such a period and so successfully.

Posted in cutTheNoize, MPFREE on May 15th, 2013 by alt

Whenever our office was receiving a new production from Mannheims young deep house producer talent Adam Stacks we were instantly in love with it. When he came up this time with his for-privat-use version for Rihannas chart topping balad ‘Stay’ it wasn’t other than that. With adding the right amount of filthiness but retaining the original vibe his version of ‘Stay’ could be a more than nice addition to the sets of some of you. Well, here it is available for a limited time.

Adam Stacks has productions on accaliamed labels such as Katermukke (Berlin, Germany) Groove On Records (Miami), WetYourSelf (London) and Karera (Germany). 2013 is more to come, like an EP on King Street Sound (New York)

His productions are being played and supported by DJs of the techno and house scene such as Maya Jane Coles, Dirty Doering, AKA AKA, DJ Shir Khan, The Glitz, George Morel, Robosonic, Piemont, Wool, Werner Niedermeier, Daniel Solar, Olivier Schories, Orde Meikle, and Bebetta.
