Already followed by big names such as Arnaud Rebotini, David August, Lee Foss, Jamie Jones and Maceo Plex, France based DeNote Records continues building its reputation as a serious label for deep house and nu disco lovers alike which is focused on bringing up the finest new talents. While previous release from Solofour – which picked up props from cool cats as Daniel Dexter, Flashmob DJs, Maxxi Soundsystem, Joyce Muniz, DJ Sneak etc. – was heading towards darker tech house territories, this time DeNote Rec. landed at our office with a superb 3track EP by a producer duo called Straws heading more into balearic, feel-good electronic disco vibed territories.
After handing themselves over to the authorities of the 19th district, Axel Rigaud & Olivier Miconi were incarcerated in a maximum security prison in Paris to serve a 5-year sentence. They met at the cafeteria, where they discovered their similar love for house music. From that moment on, they plotted an escape plan together: using makeshift synths, they composed ‘August’ and, thanks to a childhood connection, managed to escape and find refuge within the walls of ColorSound Studios.
There they dedicated their pilgrim days to meditation – when they reached a state of sufficient transe, they would launch Ableton Live. Thus the songs Rebuild and Nobody Else were created.
Their escape run was momentarily put on hold when Axel was sent to the northern Scandinavian mines, where he attempts to survive, feeding on the scraps of salmon that his jailers feed him. Nevertheless, he continues his compositional endeavours, in the hope that his torturers fulfil their promise and finally release him in june.
